Dancing for Democracy

The Delivering Democracy Project initiates a new effort.

Artistic Director, Andrea Ariel, was invited to create choreography for dancing mailboxes for a street theater campaign called Delivery Democracy that took to the streets before the election in several Pennsylvania counties. The effort aimed to distribute accurate voter information and to encourage people to vote. Our dancing mailboxes received widespread national and international press! The group came together to initiate another effort “Dancing for Democracy” on Inauguration Day.

Since Austin was at Level 5 restrictions, we weren’t able to bring together a group to join in the action. So, Andrea decided to do a solo effort in front of the Capitol receiving some wonderful press. Many thanks to reporter Olivia Levada with Spectrum News 1, Michael Hardy from the New York Times, and Robert Faires, Arts Editor for the Austin Chronicle who wonderfully captures what happened that day.
