Soundpainting in Oakland, CA!

It was an amazing week bringing Soundpainting to Oakland, California for a week-long Workshop Intensive with Bandelion Dancetheater, students at California State University at East Bay, and the CSUEB Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble (IIE) & DanceSing Drum Company. This residency brought Soundpainting for the first time to the Bay Area and launches what we plan to be a continued exchange between Austin and Oakland.

This exchange was supported in part through a Travel Grant from the Network Ensemble Theaters. As a member of this organization for over ten years, I have had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of fellow ensemble artists across the nation during the many annual NET gatherings I have attended. This is how I meet Eric Kupers, Artistic Director of Bandelion, who brought me to work with his company and students. We share a passion for inclusive, interdisciplinary experimentation and collaboration, and employing improvisational approaches in performances. This residency brought Soundpainting for the first time to Bandelion Dancetheater and CSUEB and launches what we plan to be a continued exchange between Austin and Oakland.
