Summer News!

It’s been quite a summer, filled with many wonderful adventures I want to share!

International Soundpainting Think Tank – July 7-14

It was an amazing honor to travel to Madrid and Tres Cantos in Spain representing the City of Austin as a Creative Ambassador for Dance at the 2019 International Soundpainting Think Tank. I had the opportunity to work with over 30 people from all over the world including Argentina, Singapore, Spain, Belgium, Austria, France, England, Israël, USA- Oklahoma and Texas (that’s me!), Switzerland, and Sweden. We spent a week sharing our experiences and composing together, as well as developing how we analyze the many approaches we are using to compose with Soundpainting. We also worked on the pedagogy and strategies for Soundpainting in education. It was an amazing experience to work and play with these incredibly talented and generous multidisciplinary artists toward advancing the art of Soundpainting into the future.

Creative Arts Studio – July 15-August 30

I just returned from supervising and teaching for a summer arts program for youth ages 5-12 at Creative Arts Studio in Brooklyn, NY. It is always a joy to inspire the imaginations and creative ideas of young people through dance, drama, story, song and visual art. During this time I also trained 11-14 year-olds as Junior Counselors helping pave a path for them as future counselors and teachers. I have been a part of this program for 14 years, and many of the children return every year. It is so rewarding watching them grow up and to witness their ideas and personalities developing each year. A few 5 year-olds have even returned to become a teaching assistant!
