Creative Experiment #1

We are now holding our company class and rehearsals on Zoom, and together experimenting and discovering new ways to create together in the virtual format.

Here is one of our first creative experiments dancing together through Zoom. It’s called Post-it Dance Experiment #1. It’s based on an ensemble building, improvisational game. If we were in the studio we would stand in a circle. The person who starts brings a movement idea to the ensemble and then passes it to the next person who then takes the ideas given and develops from there….and so on until it comes back to the first person who ends it. It features the talents of AADT dancers Whitney O’Baugh, Luis Ordaz, Ceci Proeger, Rebecca McLindon, Kevin Armstrong, and Sandie Donzica.

In this we are experimenting with the three-dimensional space that is viewed in a two-dimensional rectangle. It is without sound (except for some background birds), as the dancers were relating to each other through movement only.

May 1, 2020 would have been the premiere of our 30th Anniversary performance REIMAGINE at the Rollins Theatre featuring music composed and performed by Graham Reynolds with Alexis Buffum on Violin and Nora Karakousoglou on Cello. We have collaborated with Graham on over ten of AADT’s shows and this is a special re-uniting of our work. Due to the uncertainty ahead, we have decided to postpone this performance to next season and look forward to sharing this work with you then. Read about what we are doing instead of a live performance for now below!

Just a little over six weeks ago, we were busy creating in the studio, working with Graham on the music details, and about to launch the promotion for our show. We were planning our upcoming community workshops and education programs. Due to COVID-19 we had to postpone our spring House Concert Benefit and other fundraising activities, suspend rehearsals, and plan for the rescheduling our performances with The Long Center.

OKAY, so we can’t work in the studio together, hold our community workshops and education programs, and present our performance – BUT we are striving to continue our work in whatever ways we can until we can be together again!
