ABOUT US

This year Ariel Dance Theatre continues our celebration of over 30 years of performances, community workshops and education programs in Austin, Texas. We premiered our first concert at the former Capitol City Playhouse in 1991, and since then we have touched the lives of many! We have presented over 50 original works, hosted countless community and education programs with youth and adults, and have provided opportunities for the development and presentation of hundreds of artists working in diverse disciplines.

Help us keep creativity, dancing, and community engagement happening in new ways! Your donation will support artist fees for the creation of new work, help us offer free and low-cost creative workshops for the community, and provide programming for youth through our ARTSPLUS program.

YOU CAN MAKE A ONE-TIME DONATION OR BECOME ONE OF OUR CHERISHED MONTHLY SUSTAINERS!

Here’s what’s coming and all your gift will support this season!

  • Let’s Get Creative – Community Soundpainting Workshops  This free series of community workshops offer something completely innovative for creative expression and are accessible to everyone and anyone of all abilities in the Austin community. Participants will learn a unique sign language that leads them to explore expression through movement, voice and music created in real time using improvisation.
  • Community Voices Workshops  This free workshop series offers an opportunity for the community to come together to be creative, move, share stories, have a dialogue, and meet new people. In a respectful and playful environment, we will use theater games and other structured activities to explore “Reimagining our Connections in a Social Distanced Time.” Accessible for participation for any level of physical ability or experience. No dance or theatre experience is needed.
  • ARTSPLUS, arts-in-education programs  Our youth program brings learning and creative expression through dance and music to youth. We are an approved Austin ISD vendor and Arts Partner through the Creative Learning Initiative. Your support will help us bring more programs to schools in need.

Our Mission Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre creates original, multidisciplinary dance-based performances centered at the heart of our human experiences. The company engages in a collaborative, ensemble-based process to explore personal, social, political, and environmental issues with inquisitiveness and imagination. We cultivate inclusive creative opportunities for diverse audiences and participants through performances, community projects, classes, workshops, and educational and training residencies. Our goals are to foster an appreciation and understanding of the value of arts and creativity to people of all ages and abilities, and to advance equalized access to the arts.

From ARTSPLUS Program Teachers

  • The children at Lee Elementary have greatly benefited from Ms. Ariel’s program. They are more confident in their artistic abilities and more secure in taking risks. Ms. Ariel has a teaching style that is captivating for the students and a joy to watch. They embrace the concepts and creativity that she introduces and take it to the next level. I only wish we could have Ms. Ariel longer.
  • Ms. Ariel is a very enthusiastic instructor and her passion for her work is evident in her teaching. Students are always excited to be involved in the program. The program aligns with the state TEKS. The children learn to work together, collaborate ideas and improvise for different activities. It encourages creative thinkers. We love having Ms. Ariel, and hope to see her again next year.
